As part of this presentation the challenges and key early-stage trade-offs in the development of green ammonia infrastructure will be presented.

The presentation will be focused on addressing some of the architecture alternatives and their related challenges for ammonia production, leveraging common infrastructure and developing hydrogen/ammonia hubs.

The presentation will address challenges and trade-offs related to synergies with other projects and infrastructure; ammonia/hydrogen transportation and storage; costs and access to electricity supply.

The big reason for dearth of bankable projects is due to off takers who are unwilling to commit to a long-term contract. Digital Solutions may be a way to unlock this issue if they are considered from the beginning of the lifetime of the project.

Then this presentation talks about the 3 top reasons for the dilemma and explain about some potential solutions to address the 3 main hurdles: Traceability/Transparency, Cost of Renewable Hydrogen and Operations Flexibility /Safety.

General introduction and presentation of the activities and work at Fraunhofer ISE/Chile along the green hydrogen value chain, including green ammonia. Presentation of our Power-to-MEDME Project, (Production of Green Methanol and DME), for Hydrogen, Methanol and DME production in Northern Chile, using DiMethyl-Ether as E-Fuel for Mining and also alternative Hydrogen carrier. Project co-funded by BMBF and BMWK from Germany, developed jointly with Chilean and German industrial and applied research partners.

Chile, with its abundant renewable energy resources, is uniquely positioned to produce green ammonia. This study analyzes the potential for green ammonia production in Chile, utilizing the country’s solar and wind resources to power green ammonia production facilities. We introduce a methodology for calculating the Levelized Cost of Ammonia (LCOA). We use the proposed methodology to assess the techno-economic feasibility of renewable ammonia production in Chile, identifying optimal locations for facilities based on renewable energy availability and cost.

In this lecture, the methods currently in use for the production of ammonia, the appearance of new materials and also alternative methods to Haber-Bosh will be reviewed. Special emphasis will be placed on reviewing the methods that use electrochemical processes to produce ammonia, both directly and indirectly.
